Les populations riveraines des fleuves du Sénégal et de la Gambie sont averties. Dans un communiqué rendu public, le ministère de l’Eau et de l’Assainissement alerte sur des risques de débordement des eaux des deux fleuves. Pour le fleuve Gambie, les services de Serigne Mbaye Thiam préviennent que la hausse du niveau de l’eau s’est accélérée à Kédougou et se rapproche de plus en plus de la cote d’alerte. De même, les données concernant le fleuve Sénégal recueillies dans plusieurs stations hydrométriques indiquent des niveaux d’eau proches des cotes d’alerte.
Les situations les plus préoccupantes, selon la même source, concernent les localités de Matam, Podor, Dagana, Bakel… Compte tenu de ces informations, les populations riveraines et les porteurs d’activités aux abords du fleuve Gambie à Kédougou et du fleuve Sénégal sont invités, parallèlement aux diligences que l’Etat aura à entreprendre, à observer une vigilance maximale et à prendre toutes les dispositions nécessaires pour se prémunir d’éventuels dégâts qui seraient liés au débordement du cours d’eau.
