Selon l’Afd, les transferts formels comptent notamment pour 12,8 % du Produit intérieur brut (Pib) du Sénégal. «Ces montants sont d’ailleurs plus élevés que l’Aide publique au développement, même lorsqu’on ne prend pas en compte les transferts informels, eux aussi conséquents», souligne l’Afd qui cite le rapport.
Moise Sarr, Secrétaire d’Etat aux Sénégalais de l’extérieur affirme que les prévisions de la Banque mondiale pour l’année 2019-2020 prévoient une chute de 20 % des envois des migrants dans toutes les diasporas. Et d’après lui, c’est pour cette raison que le président Macky Sall avait fait un plaidoyer lors de la 57e conférence des chefs d’Etat de la Cedeao pour faire baisser les frais d’envoi des transferts de 10 à 5 %. Cela ferait gagner à l’Afrique entre 10 et 15 milliards de dollars. La seconde vague de Covid-19, qui a contraint de nombreux pays européens à confiner à nouveau leur population, risque d’être plus catastrophique pour les expatriés. Beaucoup de migrants sont impactés par ces restrictions. Ils ne travaillent plus. Cela va se faire sentir inexorablement par les familles qui dépendent de cette manne financière.
