Il a été remplacé par la directrice de la Chaîne III -version francophone de la radio algérienne-, Nacera Chérid.
Ce changement à la tête de la radio algérienne intervient quelques jours après le limogeage de Toufik Khalladi de son poste de directeur général de la télévision publique ENTV.
Les médias publics ont été décriés lors des manifestations populaires et un vent de révolte avait fini par gagner les journalistes de ces institutions. Ainsi, des journalistes de la Radio nationale algérienne avaient, dans une lettre adressée à Lounakel, dénoncé le silence imposé par leur hiérarchie sur les manifestations contre le 5e mandat et refusé «le traitement exceptionnel dérogatoire imposé par la hiérarchie au profit du président Bouteflika et de l’alliance présidentielle, et restrictif quand il s’agit de l’opposition».
C’est donc logiquement que les nouvelles autorités se débarrassent des dirigeants de ces institutions dans le cadre de mesurettes censées calmer au moins les salariés des établissements publics.
