On lui répondit : « Nous n’avons jamais entendu dire que vous racontez des mensonges. Nous ne vous avons jamais entendu dire des contrevérités ». Le prophète Mouhamed (PSL) leur dit alors : «Je suis l’avertisseur évident (Je suis le Messager de Dieu qui m’a envoyé vers vous) ». Le prophète n’avait pas fini qu’Abd al- Uzza ibn Abd al-Muttalib, un de ses oncles paternels, surnommé Abu Lahab (père du feu), prit la parole. «C’est pour cette raison que tu nous as réunis ici ? », demanda-t-il. Avant de renchérir : «puisses-tu périr ». A ces mots, Abu Lahab tourna les talons. Quand il partit, le Seigneur prouva que c’est LUI qui parlait à travers son prophète et que contredire celui-ci équivaut à contester sa propre parole. C’est ainsi qu’IL fit descendre la sourate 111. «Que périssent les deux mains d’Abu Lahab et que lui-même périsse. Sa fortune ne lui sert à rien, ni ce qu’il a acquis. Il sera brûlé dans un Feu plein de flammes, de même sa femme, la porteuse de bois, à son cou, une corde de fibres » (sourate 111, versets 1, 2, 3, 4,5). La femme d’Abu Lahab, Umm Jamil, sœur d’Abu Sufyāne, n’échappait pas à la sanction divine. Elle qui avait pris l’habitude de jeter la nuit des branches épineuses, devant la maison du Prophète qui rentrait par des rues non éclairées. Abu Lahab n’était pas seul dans la résistance. Avec d’autres notables mecquois, ils décidèrent de rendre la vie dure à Mouhamed (PSL) ainsi qu’à ceux qui commençaient à se regrouper autour de lui.
Pour donner l’exemple, les nobles décidèrent de s’en prendre aux esclaves sans protection qui avaient osé embrasser l’Islam. Sumayya va ainsi être la première personne tuée pour avoir embrassé la religion du Prophète Mouhamed (PSL). A cette occasion, un autre verset fut révélé. «Quiconque a renié Allah après avoir cru… – sauf celui qui y a été contraint alors que son cœur demeure plein de la sérénité de la foi – mais ceux qui ouvrent délibérément leur cœur à la mécréance, ceux-là ont sur eux une colère d’Allah et ils ont un châtiment terrible » (Sourate 16, verset 106). Pour dire que l’Islam est Miséricorde et Tolérance et ne saurait accepter la contrainte.
