Mouhamed (PSL) était maintenant sous l’aile protectrice de son oncle paternel Abu Talib. Le temps passait et le fils d’Amina ne tarda pas à épouser la même activité que son oncle. Mouhamed (PSL) se lança dans les affaires et devint commerçant. Les kilomètres de désert à parcourir, d’une cité à une autre, ne l’ébranlèrent guère. Il n’aimait pas la facilité et s’était accommodé des rayons du soleil depuis le désert. Il décida de suivre les pas de son oncle. Derrière cette occupation, il y avait une rencontre qui allait changer le cours de la vie de Mouhamed (PSL) et la marche de l’humanité.
Khadija fille Khowaylid était de la grande tribu Mecquoise, les Banu Assad. Très belle femme, elle avait le don d’allier l’ouverture à la fermeté. On pouvait facilement l’approcher, mais il n’était pas possible de lui manquer de respect. Sa grande personnalité s’imposait. Riche et très célèbre commerçante, Khadija était aussi d’une très grande intelligence. Les Mecquois avaient conjugué toutes ces qualités qu’elle réunissait pour faire d’elle la femme la plus noble de la cité. Khadija était conseillée par Waraqa, fils de Nawfal. Ce dernier était un vieil homme chrétien doté de grandes connaissances qui étaient pour quelque chose dans l’essor du commerce de Khadija. Cette dernière vendait également des articles qu’elle convoyait dans les autres pays, la Syrie et le Yémen notamment. Ses nombreux employés s’occupaient de cela. La confiance était fondamentale dans ce commerce. Les escrocs qui pouvaient disparaitre avec des lots ne manquaient pas. Un homme ne tarda pas à se singulariser, à attirer l’attention sur lui. Les échos clamant sa probité avaient traversé les chaumières et parvinrent aux oreilles de Khadija.
Ainsi, Mouhamed (PSL) et Khadija se rencontrèrent. Cette dernière avait confié au fils d’Amina la conduite de certaines de ses caravanes marchandes. Le temps passa très rapidement et Mouhamed (PSL) qui était exemplaire dans son travail devint homme de confiance de Khadija. Un jour, comme il n’en arrive pas souvent, Khadija avoua à une amie et confidente son amour pour Mouhamed (PSL). Elle lui chargea également de lui dire qu’elle voulût qu’il l’épousât. Le fils d’Amina hésita. Mais qui pouvait refuser la main de Khadija, la grande dame derrière le grand homme?
