Selon lui, «Il faut profiter du dialogue pour régler ces questions».
Profitant de l’occasion, il a porté la réplique à ses détracteurs sur le débat portant sur la limitation des mandats du président de la République. Très en verve, il souligne : «Je ne suis pas un homme à manipuler. Si Macky m’avait chargé de faire cette proposition, d’autres pourraient le faire. J’ai porté cette idée pour le Rappel parce que c’est ma conviction. Le combat qu’il faut mener c’est celui de la régularité et la transparence des élections. Ce ne sont pas des caisses de résonnance de l’occident ou des lobbies homosexuelles qui vont nous empêcher de dire ce que nous avons à dire. Nous n’avons de leçons à recevoir de qui que ce soit. Qu’on ne nous pousse pas à dire certaines choses. S’ils veulent la confrontation, ils l’auront. S’ils veulent le combat ouvert et à visage découvert, ils l’auront». Occasion qu’il saisira pour dérouler : «Nous avons parlé de non limitation des mandats. La limitation du mandat du président de République ne date qu’en 1993. C’est après les élections mouvementées de 1988 que la commission cellulaire présidée par le président Kéba Mbaye avait proposé la limitation des mandats à deux. Nous estimons que cela n’a pas de sens». Avant d’ajouter : «Le mandat du président de la République en France n’a pas la même valeur que le mandat du Président au Sénégal. Le Président élu en France n’est pas jugé sur le nombre de kilomètres de route réalisés, sur les universités construites… Chez nous rien n’est réglé. Le Président qui est élu, on lui demande de construire des routes, d’assister le monde rural… ». Selon lui, «le Président élu a besoin du temps pour faire son travail».
